The sculptor, Henry Moore produced very little during the Second World War though he recorded ideas for future work in his drawings. These attenuated, pierced forms may look incongruous positioned in a field with grazing sheep. Moore collected bits of bone and stone to inspire the desiccated supine nudes that populate Surrealist landscapes like this one, in which the English countryside pulsates with the memory of a distant Celtic past.
