Label TextAt the center of this print lies Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji, whose immobility is lyrically expressed through a row of pine trees and travelers in motion.  From right to left, an itinerant Buddhist monk wearing a hat and carrying a patchwork backpack heads up a hillside, a servant, at the center of the picture, takes notice of the distant mountain while leading the horse of a traveler and cargo, and palanquin bearers take a brief respite from carrying a sleeping passenger.
