Sources appear to differ as to what part of the Russian Empire Deutsch was born in--most list Lithuania, while others just list Russia. Per the precedent set by SFMOMA, the Laguna Art Museum, and the Smithsonian (via Google Arts & Culture), I have set the display nationality as American, born Lithuania (Russian Empire). - A.
